Mommy, what's a hater??

A snowstorm was hitting Boston. I left the office early to beat the traffic. My mom had offered to pick up my daughter and bring her home for me. I was unsettled though. Something didn't feel right, I kept thinking about my Lolo. The snow was starting to come down heavily and I asked my mom if she was sure she'd be able to drive in all of that snow?

It's so weird but I had a pit in my stomach. Finally, I reach home and my mom asks me to come down and help her bring Lolo up. I see my baby safe and sound and I'm good.

Thank Ya Jesus!

But in an instant my mom says, Lolo's teacher said there's a letter in her backpack for you and Q! Damnnnn. Something happened, just like I had been feeling.

I open the letter and the first thing I see is "Incident Report". I'm like "lawd what happened with my child!?!? " Let me tell you, the incident report said "Jade Mitchell was bitten today at school, please be assured that ......" it doesn't even matter what the rest said, I slowly starting seeing red.
Lord, whose parent I gotta smack?

I immediately became very upset that as my child sat during story time another young child (a girl) went over and bit her on the finger. That crazy little child bit skin off of my baby. What in the cannibalistic HELL???? I immediately thought of how scared my child must have been as she screamed out, while being attacked. I'm not even going to lie, I was really hurt by this.... but more importantly, I was....

So here I am with an 18 month old and I have to explain to her in the best way I can, what a hater is.

"Mommy what is a hater?"
Well in your case my precious baby, it's another person who doesn't want to see you happy and winning. It's someone who wants to be you so badly, that they jump out of no where and bite you! Like a damn Ms. Pacman.

I mean sure, Lolo is a shade connoisseur, she is. She's mad stank at times. And no one likes a stank girl. But, is that grounds to bite her? Oh you're mad because her hair is neatly braided for school each day? You mad because her mama makes her lunch extra pretty each day? You mad because she's the youngest in the class and you miss being that young, even if it was just 3 months ago? WHY ARE YOU MAD?

Sure, I may be a little overzealous with calling this other toddler a hater... ok ok! Maybe a little mean but geesh she bit my baby!!!! Do NOT BITE MY BABY!!!

END OF STORY!!!

" Poetic Justice... if I told you that a flower bloomed in dark room would you trust it? "

Box Braids season is quickly approaching. I always love to see the different ways in which gals are rocking their braids; from the colors, to the styles, to the length and size. I'm always intrigued by the vibe these braids let out.

I hit up one of my Liberian friends and got my hair braided yesterday! It took approximately 4 hours from start to finish. I was exhausted by the end, and I'm pretty sure my behind was flat as a pancake from all of that sitting. But, in the words of our beloved Big Sister Yonce' ....

I gained inspiration for my box braids from searching through online images mainly via Instagram and tumblr. Check this Box Braid Tumblr page for your own inspiration! Box Braids Inspiration

Hey! Where'd you get that dress?

So, my girlfriend Shari calls me literally a week before and says; "we're christening our baby". Oh ok! That's great! We'll be there. After all, he is our god-son. When is it? "February 2nd" she says. Great fine, we're there.

But wait, February 2nd? Something about that date sounds really familiar. Oh right. It's Super Bowl weekend. Ohhhh it's Super Bowl weekend aaaaand the Super Bowl is in New York this year. Riiiight, and you live in New YORK. Awesome, we'll be there.

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic + 18 month old baby in the back seat.

But the great news is, She and I hadn't hung out in some time so we'd be able to hit the city, get dolled up and really just let loose. So I started scowling my closet for the perfect NYC dress. It had to have spunk, of course be form fitting (I mean duhhh) and more importantly sparkle. I love to sparkle. My friends call me the sequin queen. I literally will wear sequin any and everywhere. Like, when I die, I need to have some sort of sheer and/or sparkle laying up in that casket.

Me at my funeral!

After a few minutes looking in both of my closets. Yes I have two. Yes, I know exactly where everything is. Yes, I will cut you if you take something.

But, after a few minutes I find it. I found the perfect dress to really stand out in the city that never sleeps.

The "Samia' Crystal Embellished Bandage Dress"

This dress retails $210

I paired it with some diamond studs and gold pumps and that's all the accessories that I needed. Additionally, I wanted very subtle eye make-up but needed my lip to really pop. I think it would be expected to do a nude lip with this dress, because of all the sequin. So, I decided to do the opposite and go with a bright pink lip!

The final look!

Allow me to introduce myself

Whoa! It's been a while since the last time I blogged. It's been almost two years to be exact. But nothing has really changed since then. I mean sure, I have a curfew now. If I even attempt to go out at night with friends and/or the hubby, I have to be in before 3am because rest assured my child will be up promptly at 6:30am. Wait huh?!

Then of course there's the extra inch or two orrrrrr three that I gained around my waistline since motherhood. Whyyy me?

Oh yeah wait,  and I'm always on edge. I can go from normal to crazy in like 5 seconds. This 18 month child of mine drives meeeeee crazy sometimes.

Otherwise, yep! I'm still the same Jae. Just a more tired, fat, hormonal Jae. But Jae, nonetheless.

I started blogging again because I wanted to share my thoughts, my experiences, my photographs, my fashion, motherhood, friendships and married-life with you. It can be challenge juggling all of these pieces which make up who I am as a whole. But I am  every woman... and it is all in me.

That's So Jaded,
Jae
